Dual Mode Backlighting
AGDisplays designs, develops and manufactures custom Dual Mode Backlighting for LCDs used by the military and public safety. A dual mode backlight in a display is a system that provides viewability in two opposite lighting conditions; this works by implementing two lighting systems that operate independently of one another. One system provides a clear user-readable view in ambient conditions. The second lighting system is in place to provide filtered light in accordance with MIL-STD-3009. Dual Mode backlighting systems are used in connection with military night vision systems. AGDisplays integrates a Dual Mode Backlighting System in your display that is compatible with your MIL-STD-3009 device.
In order to achieve this Dual Mode system, AGDisplays integrates high bright edge-lit LEDs to work with innovative backlighting technology and NVIS-compliant (Night Vision Imaging System) capabilities into the panel. In doing so, we offer a high bright mode solution for your daytime/sunlight readable scenarios; then, with the simple flick of a switch, go directly into night vision mode. The light source is connected to the remote NVIS-compliant light source with Class A or B Filters, respective of the LCD application. The high bright backlight is constructed of optically-enhancing layers that are assembled together to enhance luminance. What's more, the use of our GI-3002 LED controller gives the panel dimming capabilities.
There are many benefits to using AGDisplays' Dual Mode Backlighting System-from an increased operating lifespan of your panel, to lower power consumption. Our backlights are highly durable and once installed, have proven to rarely need to be replaced. The remote light source (LED) offers anywhere from 10,000 to 100,000 hours operation life depending on power output and can be easily replaced if needed. The power source used to light the backlight panel can be driven as low as 10-20mA at only 2 volts direct current. This power source requires much less power than EL, CCFL, or LED and does not require and inverter. Another added benefit would be its compact size. The Dual Mode NVIS-compliant panels are thin, typically 0.068 inches thick-or 1.7 mm-and can be constructed even thinner, if needed. The power source is also very compact, allowing for a smaller design. Extreme environments are not a problem. The NVIS backlighting remains unaffected by extremes in humidity (0% to 100%) and in temperatures ranging from -40° C to 85° C. AGDisplays currently offers the Dual Mode System for all panel sizes.
